Web Software Developer

Position:

National Education Servicing (NES), an education finance firm, seeks an experienced developer to assist in the development, maintenance and management of the company’s website, running on MS IIS with ASP and MS SQL Server, Apache, Python, PostgreSQL and management of site development and overall workflow.

The position is available in our downtown Chicago, Illinois office.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining existing code as well as developing new code and site content; handling errors, bug reports, enhancements and modifications.  This person will also work closely with the product development and marketing teams to ensure that the web site and associated systems are efficiently and effectively working toward furthering the mission of the company.  We are seeking a well organized person to coordinate web functions, monitor web activities, and incorporate new technologies in the pursuit of continual improvement to all web properties.  Someone who can handle fast-pace change and meet multiple deadlines is ideal.  This person will be expected to lead the web site interface and user experience development and provide guidelines, including user flow and overall page layout.

Performing and verifying the validity of regular recurring system back-ups and maintenance of database & code is also integral to this role.

Responsibilities also include support of the existing office intranet, and exploring alternative solutions for solving business problems. This position reports to the CTO, and works with other members of the project team to develop site content, interface design, and architecture of the website.

Qualifications:

The position requires 3 + years work experience in web development running a production business web site, experience with a variety of different programming languages (preferably Visual Basic, ASP and Python), knowledge/familiarity with administration of web server software (Microsoft IIS and Apache preferred), and knowledge/familiarity with database administration (Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL preferred).  We require applicants with a solid grasp of usability, and web user interface concepts, web reporting and analysis experience or equivalent, working knowledge of web content management systems.  Strong candidates will demonstrate an ability to cull insights from their work and provide useful business recommendations to IT, Product Development and Marketing departments.  Candidates will should be adept at handling rapidly changing priorities, have excellent written and oral communication skills, a keen sense for details, and have the ability to work with all levels of the organization within a diverse environment.  Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, with significant experience in web development is preferred.
